The Forerunner server is drive space available to AMPD students where they can store images, video and document files and put up a website. Forerunner can be accessed the following ways:
1. I am on a desktop computer in CFA328, CFA330, CFA334B, CFA132
- In the FINDER MENU BAR select GO. Scroll down and select CONNECT TO SERVER (or Command K).
- In the pop-up window enter SERVER ADDRESS forerunner.finearts.yorku.ca
- Hit CONNECT.
- A window may open asking you to AUTHENTICATE TO KERBEROS. If you belong to KERBEROS enter your password. If not press CANCEL.
- A CONNECT TO SERVER WINDOW will open. You are a REGISTERED USER. Your NAME is the first part of your yorku e-mail address. Your PASSWORD is your STUDENT NUMBER.
- You are now on the server and are able to select a volume to mount. Your instructor should have informed you which volume your class is in eg: VISA1 or VISA2. Choose the volume and it will mount on your desktop. Choose the correct class number, choose STDO01, then choose your name. You now have access to your files on the server.
2. I am at home on a Mac
- Establish an Internet connection.
- In the FINDER MENU BAR select GO. Scroll down and select CONNECT TO SERVER (or Command K).
- In the pop-up window enter SERVER ADDRESS forerunner.finearts.yorku.ca
- Hit CONNECT.
- A window will open asking you to AUTHENTICATE TO KERBEROS. If you belong to KERBEROS enter your password. If not press CANCEL.

3. I am at home on a PC using Windows
- Youwill need to download an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) application called Win SCP. Go to the following York site: http://computing.yorku.ca/faculty-staff/software/free-downloads/
- Click on the link that brings you to the Win SCP download site and download Win SCP: free version from any one of the suggested locations.
- SITE NAME is not important – call it whatever you wish. HOST/IP/URL is forerunner.finearts.yorku.ca. USER NAME the first part of your yorku e-mail address. Your PASSWORD is your STUDENT NUMBER.
- Once you are on the server you are able to select a volume to mount. Your instructor should have informed you which volume your class is in eg: VISA1 or VISA2. Choose the volume and it will mount on your desktop. Choose the correct class number, choose STDO01, then choose your name. You now have access to your files on the server.
